3 weeks ago, Arian Malitya

When it comes to Bengali commercial cinema, Dev’s box office performance screams “Pagla, khabi ki? Jhajey more jabi!” From action-packed adventures to romantic dramas, this man has pulled crowds to the theatres like few.

What surprised me?
Amazon Obhijaan alone made a jaw-dropping ₹48.70 crore, double its ₹20 crore budget! Even Bollywood would say, Ki bhabchilam, aar ki hoye gelo!

Let’s dive into the top 10 Dev movies that didn’t just win hearts, they ruled the box office.

1. Amazon Obhijaan (2017) - 48.70Cr.

A sequel to Chander Pahar, this one was box office-e aagun! Dev’s jungle adventure made history as one of the highest-grossing Bengali films ever to cross ₹48.70 Cr.
Shankar bolchhe: "Aami cholte bhalobashi." And audiences ran to theatres!

2. Khadaan (2024) - 25Cr.

Dev’s latest release, Khadaan, came like a silent storm. A ₹6 crore budget and it pulled ₹25 crore. That’s what you call a mass hit. As Dev would probably say in his signature style, “Jekhane ami achhi, sekhane jeet achhe.

3. Chander Pahar (2013) - 22.50Cr.

Chander Pahar was the film that made us dream beyond our local para. An adventure film in Africa with a ₹13 crore budget? People thought Bengali cinema couldn’t pull this off.
But Shankar proved them wrong. "Bhooter desh-e bhoyer kono jayga nei!" And the box office agreed.

4. Projapoti (2013) - 13Cr.

A small ₹2 crore film that soared like its title: Projapoti.
A simple story with a big heart, this one showed that you don’t need a jungle or a mine to mint money, sometimes you just need emotions and Dev’s charm. And this charm made ₹13 Cr, making it another box office hit.

5. Paglu (2011) - 9.95Cr.

Who can forget the madness of Paglu? College romance, catchy songs, fights, puro moshlai vorpur!
Paglu didn’t just win the girl, he won the box office too. It showed a performance of ₹9.95 Cr in 2011 and if you calculate without the inflation the number shows respect.

6. Poran Jai Joliya Re (2009) - 9.50Cr.

This movie was Dev’s big turning point. A ₹2 crore budget and nearly ₹10 crore earnings preciously ₹9.50 Cr! The songs became anthems, and suddenly, Dev bolte chele meyera ek-kothai pagol.

7. Rangbaaz (2013) - 9Cr.

A proper action film that kept the masses whistling. The budget was ₹5 crore, and it raked in the list of ₹9 crore. Dev’s punch dialogues still echo: “Ei sohorer sobcheye boro Rangbaaz” which seems true anyway!

8. Chaamp (2017) - 8.90Cr.

Bengal’s first proper film on boxing, Dev transformed his body, and the movie packed a punch at the box office. It was not just about fights; it was about the fight within.
As Dev said in Chaamp, "Ekta punch diye shob chhobi palte debo." And he did. With a collection of ₹8.90 Cr he won the heart as well as the Bengali box office.

9. Khoka 420 (2013) - 8Cr.

Another masala entertainer with comedy, fights, and romance. It was the crowd-puller that cemented Dev’s mass hero image and performed approximately ₹8 Cr in the Bengali box office. And the songs? Vaasan naach e giye toh dekho ekbar!

10. Pradhan (2023) - 7Cr.

A political drama that showed Dev in a matured, powerful avatar. ₹4 crore budget, ₹7 crore collection, it quietly made its mark. Pradhan bolte shudhu politics noy, responsibility-o ache. And the audience loved that responsibility.

Obosheshe:

Dev’s box office journey teaches us, Challenge the limits and you might just become the Champ. His films aren’t just numbers; they’re moments that pulled people out of their homes and into theatres making itv a festivity for people seeking entertainment.

Of course, there will always be hits and misses. But as long as Dev keeps reinventing himself for the love of his fans, one thing’s for sure will echo in Bengali Cinematic World - “Ami chilam, amio achi ar ami thakbo.”

Which of these films is your personal favorite? Or did I miss one you love?
